AIGS has hundreds of jade samples from which students can learn how to identify jade from its many simulants, as well as how to grade such pieces.

What Will I Learn?
- History and definition of Jade i.e Nephrite and Jadeite, including differences in their properties
- Main sources of Jade
- Understand different type of Jade simulants
- Understand different types of Jade treatment e.g. Type A, B, C, B+C & doublet & coating
- Practical sessions
- Emphasis of 10x loupe in identification process
- Introduction to advance testing method e.g. Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
- Understand basic grading of Jadeite
- Usage of instruments to test & separate Jade simulants including treated Jades from natural ones

The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences was founded in 1978 as South East Asia’s first international gemological education facility.
