With a collection of over a thousand rough and cut stones, this course offers students a rare opportunity to examine all the major synthetic and treated gem varieties found within the marketplace.

Being able to identify synthetic and,  especially, treated materials is a vital aspect of the modern gem and jewelry industry and many gem dealers have lost large sums of money by buying such stones as natural.

Note: As a pre-requisite for this course, applicants are usually required to have a prior basic gemological qualification - such as E102 Gem Identification, or equivalent - or have sufficient applicable industry experience.

The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS) was founded in 1978 as South East Asia’s first international gemological education facility and Laboratory.   The school was founded in order to provide professional training for those who were looking to expand their opportunities within the gem and jewelry industry, as well as increase the general public's knowledge and appreciation of gemstones. Today, AIGS has become a world recognized international gemological school, where many students from all over the world come together to learn and forge relationships that will last throughout their careers.

The AIGS Lab offers gem and mineral identification report.
