This course explores the major synthetic and treated gem varieties found within the marketplace. The ability to identify synthetic and treated materials is a vital aspect of the modern gem and jewelry industry and many gem dealers have lost large sums of money by buying such stones as natural.

Should a student fail either or both the written and practical exams, they are allowed a maximum of two retakes.
